INVITATION
You have friends. Your friends have friends, and so do their friends. This is an example of a social network. Social networks are groups of people that communicate and influence each other. Social networks can be general, without any characteristics, however in a social network there usually are different communities with different interests, like people owning a dog.
HOW DOES YOUR SOCIAL NETWORK LOOK LIKE?
Design your real social network using one of the following:
a) poster (size A0)
b) animation (max 30 seconds)

Participating works
Send your work by e-mail to yoursocialnetwork@xtract.com. You should also include your contact details, an anonymous participation codename of your choice, university and faculty. The works should be named after your codename.
Posters must be submitted in 150 dpi pdf by e-mail (file<10MB) and using the free service www.sendthisfile.com (file>10MB) to yoursocialnetwork@xtract.com. The background colour of the illustration must be white. Animations must be submitted through the free video sharing service Vimeo and privately shared with yoursocialnetwork@xtract.com. The resolution must be greater than 640x480, preferably HD (1280x720). The background colour should be white. Acceptable file formats are avi, mpeg, mp4, wmv but preferably mov (Quicktime movie H.264 codec).

1st prize: A trip to Adtech New York, USA, November 3-4th, 2008 (incl. air fares, exhibition entrance and 800 USD for accommodation and pocket money) or if chosen 1800 € in cash
2nd prize: 600 €
3rd prize: 400 €
Update: the participation in Adtech is to the exhibition hall and to the Xtract PR event where we present the best works (the Xtract PR event will be moved)

The winners will be notified personally and announced on Xtract´s website.
Winning criteria
The winners will be those competition works that best match the proposed theme, have a personal style, a creative approach to the topic, drawing and design skills and are artistically of best quality in the view of the judges.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
The rights of the awarded winners will transfer to Xtract according to following terms:
The payment of the prizes gives Xtract rights to the use of the winning designs for one year from the day the jury has agreed on the awards and the prizes are paid. The reproduction rights for other purposes than PR and exhibitions are always subject to the payment of an extra fee, which is negotiable with the submitter of the design.
Xtract may not alter, or amend in any way, the work submitted without the written agreement of the designer.
The competition organizer has the right to exhibit the winning works in any chosen place. For this purpose the organizer has the right to print or otherwise copy the winning works. Xtract has also the right to use the participating works for PR purposes and organizing exhibitions of the best works.
In any other case, unless specifically agreed otherwise between Xtract and the participants, all intellectual property rights shall remain the property of the participants.
By entering the competition, participants are obliged to submit only works of their own copyright. Xtract does not take any liability for the misuse of other third party copyrights by the participants.
Competition
This is the first Xtract International Student Design Competition. The objective of the competition is to find new ways in viewing and displaying real social networks of people who really communicate, not of buddies on facebook who never talk. These concepts can be combinations of graphic design, animations and new media solutions, surprising and transforming the way social networks are generally examined. The competitions and the entries official language is English.
